Duration and implementation

The implementation period is 16 months
  • The financing contract enters into force and takes effect from the date of signing by the last party.

  • The financing contract takes effect from the date of signing by the last party until the closing date of the Program or the expiration date of the period to ensure the project's durability, namely its sustainability/durability, whichever occurs later.

General objective

The main objective of the project is to improve the water and wastewater infrastructure in Maramures County
  • The project aims to expand and modernize the water and sewerage infrastructure in Maramures County.
  • The investments will improve water quality and the wastewater treatment system.
  • These measures contribute to environmental protection and more efficient public services.
  • SC VITAL SA will ensure implementation by European standards.
    • Directive (EU) 98/83/EC sets the standards for drinking water.
    • In Romania, this directive was implemented through Law no. 458/2002, which establishes standards for the supply and monitoring of drinking water at the national level.
    • Directive (EU) 2020/2184 was transposed through Ordinance no. 7/2023..
    • The project complies with Directive (EU) 91/271/CEE regarding the treatment of urban wastewater, transposed into Romanian legislation through. Government Decision no. 352/2005.

Specific Objectives

The project complies with several European directives transposed into national legislation
    The project contributes to the specific objective by developing water and wastewater infrastructure through:
  • Expanding access to drinking water and sanitation services.
  • Increasing efficiency in water distribution and reducing losses.
  • Improving the quality of treated water and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Reducing the risk of groundwater pollution and improving environmental quality.
  • Improving living conditions and reducing the risk of illness in rural areas through the development/establishment of wastewater collection systems and continuously ensuring the supply of safe, high-quality drinking water.
  • Reducing losses in the water supply systems will contribute to the long-term conservation of water resources and the prevention of watercourse pollution in the county. By treating wastewater before discharge, will enhance the self-purification capacity of water bodies and promote the development of biodiversity, recreational activities, agriculture, and industrial and commercial development along the riverside.
